Character Counts at Coleman
Coleman School utilizes the Character Counts! program to help with the teaching of character education.  Our school-wide program follows the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.  One pillar is chosen each month as the trait we highlight, which includes actvities and lessons designed around that particular character trait. In addition, during that month, students are recognized each time they display that trait.  They receive an "A-paws" ticket that is the same color as that month's trait.
At the end of each month a school-wide assembly is held by grade level to recognize both students who are nominated by their teacher as the outstanding citizen who has demonstrated that pillar, and all "A-paws" tickets are collected and two winners selected at random for a small prize.  Parents of students who are nominated are invited to attend this assembly.
Please check out the Character Counts website for more information about this nationally-recognized program: http://charactercounts.org/sixpillars.html
